GYOTAKU!!!
After viewing examples of Japanese prints and discussing the importance of nature to the culture, students used a real fish to create a print in the Japanese tradition.
BLACK LAQUER
After viewing prints and black laquer artifacts, Grade 4 students created a nature themed design on a small box. They imitated the time consuming layering process using black tempra, colored tempra, gold glitter and many coats of Mod Podge.

Sixth graders study Japanese artwork, examine traditional painting artifacts, then create their design on rice paper. Their inspiration comes from slides of the country of Japan from a Social Studies unit.

WOODBLOCK PRINT
An award winning print created by an 8th Grader using a block of wood and cutting and pounding designs into the surface. It was printed on a special 'woodbark' paper.
