MARBLE MAZE VOCABULARY: structure maze score curl fringe spiral tab gravity centrifugal force PROCEDURES: 1. You will be creating a three dimensional marble maze that is workable. It should have a beginning, an end and interesting architectural designs and tricks in between. 2. You may work on it by yourself or with a partner. If you work by yourself you must have at least two floors. If you choose to work with a partner, you must have at least three floors and the maze should be more difficult. When working with a partner it is important to determine how each will contribute to the whole design. Make sure to choose a partner you can work with easily and remember you get the same grade on your finished project. 3. The supplies will be in a centrally located spot in the classroom. The glue takes a long time to dry and patience is required. Remember that white and gel glue become clear when dry. 4. Your architectural structure must be aesthetically pleasing from all sides. Consider color as a way to create unity. 5. As you think about how to construct your maze you must consider both gravity and centrifugal force. Remember that curves help build up speed while corners and obstacles slow the marble down. Use both. This is a maze. It is NOT a marble race. 6. Some architectural features you should include are bridges, arches, columns, domes, ramps, and tunnels. Be creative- use stairs, U-turns, floor holes, spiraling ramps and chutes to make your maze interesting. 7. A test marble may be checked out during class when your maze is completed and graded. You will be given a marble to take home with your project. 8. An X-acto knife may be checked out if it is needed. Make sure to follow the safety rules and cut on a thick pad of newspaper to protect the tables. 9. Construct features such as stairs, columns, ramps and chutes before you need them. Also, keep testing the structure so that you don’t have any big surprises near the due date.
